About WESB
Who we are and what we do
Who are we?
Members of the Board have been selected due to their expertise in the skills and employment arena in Wales. There is representation from employers, training providers, trade unions, local authorities, higher education, further education and the business sector.
Our Work
Our work is not just about the design of policy, but more to do with its implementation and how it is experienced ‘at the coal face’ by employers and by individuals looking to secure their future in a rapidly changing economy. Wales Employment and Skills Board (WESB) have been exploring and commenting on the connections and alignment between different Government initiatives and programmes in addressing the employment and skills challenges which Wales face.
We produced our first annual report ‘A Wales that Works’ for Welsh Ministers in May 2009 and provided a range of advice on the Integration of Employment and Skills, Higher Education, Investing in Skills and Employment and Skills performance targets. WESB also provided input to the Economic Summit process.
This year we have been focussed on two specific inquiries on Young Persons’ Employment and Employability Skills and our advice will be published in Spring 2010 as two separate reports along with our second annual report. We have also worked on topics and provided advice covering Basic Skills, Welsh Medium Education, Higher Education, High Performance Working, Labour Market Strategy, Sector Skills Councils and reviewing progress of ‘A Skills that Works for Wales’.
